My kids love these! I got this idea from Homemade Mamas and I just HAD to make them for my kids! They are so super easy and make bath time so much more fun. We can’t wait for summer so we can take them to the pool!! They are a great alternative to water balloons – easy to fill, no rubber trash to clean up, reusable…
Okay, so here’s how to make these fun water bombs… Buy a package of sponges. I bought a 6-pack of sponges and two 4-packs. I wanted a variety of colors. Cut each sponge lengthwise into 4 strips.
Arrange whatever pattern you want. You need two layers four sponge strips wide (so eight strips total).
Tie dental floss around the middle of the sponges and pull tightly. I doubled-up the dental floss because it kept breaking. Make sure to get it tight!
Tie several knots and then wrap the floss around a second time and tie several knots again. We don’t want these breaking apart!
To store I purchased a mesh pull-string bag. I just hang it up in the shower or with our pool toys. They dry quickly and easily in the bag. Also good to know: You can wash these in the washing machine! Just let them air dry.

What a great idea! I wish I would have thought about it when it was summer here-a long hot one in Australia this year! My toddler would have loved playing with these. I’ve got a MckLinky party called Tot Tuesdays which started on Tuesday. I hope you’ll stop by & share: http://delicious-ambiguity-nennyk.blogspot.com/2010/03/first-ever-tot-tuesdays-mcklinky-party.html

Those are in my “to do” file … Martha Stewart featured them a few years ago. Definitely have to make those with my kids this summer … they’d be great in the pool! I like all the colors you chose.

I love this idea! I have a 2 year old that will have a blast with this! I might just have to make a bunch to take to our family reunion this summer (we all go camping together). I see this being a big hit with adults too! LOL

Instead of using dental floss couldn’t you use the skinny colorful zip ties? They would never break! Just an idea…

Just made these for my kids while dinner was cooking. Now they can not wait for a bath! A six pack of sponges was $1.69 and we have an endless supply of floss from the little bags the kids get at the dentist. Good, clean and cheap fun! Thanks for posting!
