Gregg, the creative genius behind Modern Bird Studios, uses one of your photographs and then breaks it down into a two, three, four, or five-color image which results in abstract shapes that make up the form. Then he chooses contrasting colors to create the painting.

The result is a marriage between technology and traditional painting to create a totally hip urban-style art piece that enriches your home.

Gregg and his wickedly hilarious wife Megan run this fabulous business together and are a great team. Gregg’s the artist while Megan’s the Sales Rep, Tweeter, Facebook Junkie and Email Queen.

Megan and I hooked up (eww, not like that) and she pimped her husband out to me for a painting. I’m sure Megan regretted that decision as soon as she started working with me. I sent her at least FIFTY photos, emailed her a laundry list of questions, AND I rejected her first proof she sent over (because I changed my mind about the photo I’d selected) and made her start the entire process over again with a new photo. Yes, I’m that person.

During the entire process Megan was nice and friendly, never grumbled (to my face at least!), and treated me like she was my Realtor trying to find me a perfect home aka: she acted like my best friend in the entire world while I hemmed and hawed and viewed countless photos.

If that isn’t real professionalism and the gosh-darn best Customer Support I’ve ever received then my names not Betty! ;) I bet if I lived in the DC area she would have invited me over for a home-cooked meal and a Red Box. Yes, she honestly IS that nice. Boom. (Her favorite word, so I figured I should throw that in there).

One fine day, the {Modern} Birds were chirping and the UPS (or was it FedEx?) guy arrived with a huge package for ME! (Oh happy day!). I tore that package open quicker than a dog chasing a cat, quicker than a drug addict taking a hit, quicker than a fat person eating a doughnut. Unfortunately it was some computer part for the hubby. BUT THE NEXT DAY, the guy in brown delivered my very own Modern Bird original.

I did not know such perfection and beauty even existed on this planet. I wondered if I loved it even extra super-duper more because it was MY baby in the painting, but nope, seems everyone is loving on this painting.

Gregg is a freakin’ Super Star in my book. I’ve been staring at this painting for a few weeks now, and I still can’t take my eyes away from it.

One of the many amazing thing about this artwork is the texture of it. It’s not just flat paint. It’s got a real gritty lovely texture that one can only appreciate in real life (which is why you should totally order one for yourself!). I tried to capture the depth and texture of the art.

Another amazing quality of their art is that you can see the texture of the wood grain through the paint.

Unless you are color-blind you’ve noticed the painting is gray and yellow. I purposely chose those two colors because I knew eventually I’d paint my family room gray (and will use yellow as an accent color) and I wanted to display this artwork in there.

Here’s my sweet Kinsey in 2008 on the Jersey Shore (unfortunately we didn’t hang with Snooki that day). If you want specifics because you just love the armpit of the US (hey, I’m allowed to say that because I actually lived in the armpit of the US!), we lived and beached in Long Branch. And I loved every.single.second. of it. If my family didn’t all live in Austin, I’d totally live up on the East Coast again. LOVED it.
