Organizing an under-sink bathroom disaster

Today I have a quick and easy tip for organizing the cavernous hole under the bathroom sink. Our guest bathroom tends to be a catch-all for crap under the sink, and with it being a huge hole, it doesn't leave much room for organization. Here's what it looked like before. Yikes. I'm sorry for that. I'm sure you now need some eye bleach. I know, huge mess! Before I tackled the cabinet, I measured how wide the opening was and ran to Target for some type of drawer to hold everything. Here's what I came home with. When I got home I pulled everything out of the cabinet. Organizing … [Read more...]

Capping off plumbing, removing carpet staples | Master Bath reno update

Last week I shared that we've been thrown into an unexpected master bathroom renovation. Seemingly out of nowhere our shower started leaking water out from under the pan. The pan ended up having a small crack in the drain and is not fixable. The only solution is to replace it. Well, if I'm going to blow up my bathroom anyway, I may as well create the bathroom of my dreams, am I right?! Last week I started removing the pan and tearing out all the gross carpet. (Yes, the bathroom had carpet. Barf.) After we ripped the pan out to pinpoint the exact location of the leak, I quickly realized that … [Read more...]

A summer bedroom & office swap

Our almost-15-years-old twin nieces are staying with us a good portion of the summer! They live in Texas and we like to fly them to Colorado whenever our schedules allow. We are lucky that they get to spend over 4 weeks with us this summer! This bedroom switcharoo might seem confusing but stick with me here. Usually our nieces share a room at home, but our guest room has a queen-sized bed. We didn't want them to have to share a bed all summer, and we thought it would be fun for each of them to get to have their own bedroom. Our guest room is upstairs with the two other kid bedrooms, so … [Read more...]

Life-sized STAR WARS balloons! Coolest balloons ever!

Happy Birthday, Ben! Ben celebrated the big 4-0 on May 4th! Yup, Star Wars day. May the forth be with you. hehe When I went to party city to purchase some fun decorations for a party for him, I stumbled upon the BEST decorations ever - JUMBO STAR WARS BALLOONS. I seriously squealed out loud. I mean, I've literally never seen jumbo balloons like this before. Maybe I live in under a rock, but seeing these balloons made me so excited. They are huge! I couldn't decide between the Stormtrooper or R2D2 so I splurged and bought both. They were a huge hit! We had these balloons hanging … [Read more...]

How to remove stickers the easy way

You guys. This is such a simple tip, but not many people know about it. But before I get down to business and share this super simple tip with you, I have to give a shout out to Wal-mart of all places for stocking the CUTEST galvanized containers. Seriously, they have tons of different bins, trays, containers, etc and they are all the oh-so-hot galvanized metal. Rumor has it (I haven't verified with my own eyeballs) that this stuff is now on CLEARANCE. I better get up there and buy some more before they're all gone. You can use these containers in virtually every room in your house for … [Read more...]

An unexpected Master Bathroom renovation, phase 1

Welp, I guess I'm doing a renovation in our master bathroom! Just last week Ben and I were talking about our list of needed renovations in this house and prioritized them all. The master bath desperately needs a cosmetic update, but we decided to put it towards the bottom of the list. We'd rather get all the floors refinished and install a new pretty kitchen. Of course, as soon as you make a statement like, "the bathroom should be added to the very bottom of the list", the universe throws a curve ball at you and basically says, "Oh ya?! Hold my beer." Here is our bathroom just after we … [Read more...]

How to create cheap sophisticated window treatments

I've been trying to spruce up my office lately to make it feel more cozy. I don't have a ton of extra cash for all new furniture, so I've made do with what I have. While I don't have a ton of extra cash, I do have a little to put towards some very inexpensive window treatments. Did you know you can make your own curtain rods for only a few bucks? If you add in the brackets too you are still less than $8 for the entire getup! My office is basically a bedroom on our main floor (the other bedrooms are all upstairs). This room has one large window and one small window. Yes, these … [Read more...]
