Personalizing a tumbler with custom vinyl

Hey fam! I'm super excited. I'm headed to the Haven Conference this weekend. I haven't been to any conferences in several years so I'm really excited about this one! Are you going to Haven? I basically low-key took a blogging break for a long time due to some stuff in my personal life but finally that is all sorted out and I've been able to put my heart back into my blog again. I don't want to get into the personal reasons for taking time off, but please know that I have missed you guys so much and am truly grateful to be back here again. I don't foresee me disappearing from the blog world … [Read more...]

Custom Labels for your Baking Storage Containers

My daughter LOVES to bake. I wouldn't be surprised if someday she opens up her own bakery. She bakes yummy treats almost daily (which makes being low-carb even harder!). She is an amazing baker! Did I mention that she's only 13? Because of all her daily baking, I wanted a functional AND pretty way to store all the baking goods. I found these awesome Rubbermaid containers on amazon and created some pretty labels using my Silhouette. Once I get more organized I plan on making these and selling them for those of you who don't have a vinyl cutter, but for now I'm just sharing the tutorial. … [Read more...]

Favorite band decals using a vinyl cutter (Silhouette)

I busted out the Silhouette machine! Every time I get it out I wish that I had done it sooner and made more projects. It's just so fun and makes such cool stuff! My heading-into-10th-grade son wanted a few custom decals for his laptop and asked me if I could make them on the Silhouette. My reply, "Mission accepted!" So fun right?! He obviously loves Red Hot Chili Peppers, Weezer, and a computer game called Half-Life. He wanted stickers for each. I googled images for each of the bands and imported them into the Silhouette software. First up, Weezer: I hate wasting vinyl, so if I'm … [Read more...]

creating PRIMAL FURS for Indoor Percussion

Last week I introduced y'all to Indoor Drumlines, or Indoor Percussion Ensembles. My son is in high school and had the cool opportunity to be a part of his high school's Indoor Drumline. They preformed a cool show called Primal, which included awesome costumes created on the cheap by the parents of the group. Here's the final costume: In this post I showed you guys how I created the loin cloth (skirt) and belt for the costume. Today I'm here to wrap up this Indoor Drumline PRIMAL series with a play-by-play on all the furs the kids wore. The pit kids (the ones in the front who … [Read more...]

Appreciating Art – tweens paint famous works

I am so excited about today's post. If you know me at all, you know I LOVE art! So when I walked into my daughter's school and saw dozens of HUGE recreations of famous pieces of art painted by the students, I was so giddy. I only took photos of a few of the pieces of art, but there were literally dozens and dozens lining the walls. They were huge too - like, floor to ceiling huge. I should have taken a picture with my daughter next to one. I think they projected the images onto the paper and then each group got to paint theirs. Without further adieu, today is art appreciation day at … [Read more...]

Easy craft project for Tweens – Crafty Monograms!

Here's a really fun craft project for tweens! My daughter wanted to have a sleepover with a bunch of her friends. We planned a few activities to keep them occupied, including movie time and craft time. Craft time for a bunch of tween girls can be tough. We had to come up with a craft for all skill levels. After walking up and down the craft isles at Target, we finally came up with a cute, easy project that everyone could work on together. We purchased a wooden letter for each girl (the first letter of their first name). Then we loaded the table with all the craft supplies we could dig … [Read more...]

35 uses for IKEA’s VARIERA plastic bag dispenser

As you probably know, IKEA is one of my favorite stores. They have so many great products and many of their products are perfect for altering or "hacking". IKEA's VARIERA plastic bag holder is no exception. This versatile product can be used in literally dozens of different ways. Here's the basic VARIERA plastic bag holder from IKEA. It's purpose is to hold plastic grocery bags. This item is great as-is, hung in a kitchen, mud room, or laundry room. BUT! There are also so many other really cool uses for the VARIERA plastic bag holder. This item gets pretty darn creative when you … [Read more...]
