Installing new pendant lighting in our custom IKEA kitchen

Our kitchen renovation is moving right along. Now that we have the bulk of the kitchen renovation finished, it's time to turn my attention over to some new lighting. I'll share with you our amazing new pendants as well as some tips for making installation even easier. As you can see, our lighting situation is a little sad. We had one chandelier that hung over where the breakfast table used to be. Instead of having a table, we replaced it with a huge L-shaped island. Instead of having one chandelier hang off-center, we hung some new amazing pendant lights instead. … [Read more...]

Our friends PRANKED our house while we were on vacation || best prank ever!

We were recently pranked so good by some of our friends that I am still laughing about it. Seriously, this is the prank to end all pranks. We have some pretty awesome friends. Our family went on a quick getaway to San Francisco a few weeks ago and when we got home at almost 1am we walked into this: I'm sure you are thinking, "What in the heck am I looking at? What on earth is that?" Let me start from the beginning... Our son is in Percussion at high school. He is part of an Indoor Drumline. That's him on the far left with a tan beanie on. … [Read more...]

Quickest and Easiest way to hang rails/hooks/racks on your wall. Trust me.

I'm venturing away from our huge whole-house renovation today to share a quick update in our 1st floor guest bathroom. The shower gets used more than you'd think in there and we were sorely lacking in towel storage. Here's a view of the bathroom reflected through the huge 90's mirror that stretches across the entire wall. And here's a real view of the wall next to the shower. Clearly it needs some sort of towel bar or towel rack. I found this really cute towel hook rail on Amazon and thought it would be cute for the bathroom. Clearly Liberty thinks it should be for a … [Read more...]

Our guest room || the “before” pictures

After almost 2 years of living in our new home in Colorado, I realized I've never given you a tour of our guest room. The shame! You aren't missing much though because I really haven't done much to the room. Also, it's full of random furniture that doesn't work together. It's pretty much the leftover hodge podge of rooms. :) The last time I showed you this room was two years ago during our new house walk-through post. It also just happens to be the first time I showed you this room. haha Yes, teal walls. I kind of equally dig and loathe them. Is that even possible? Here are a few … [Read more...]

A summer bedroom & office swap

Our almost-15-years-old twin nieces are staying with us a good portion of the summer! They live in Texas and we like to fly them to Colorado whenever our schedules allow. We are lucky that they get to spend over 4 weeks with us this summer! This bedroom switcharoo might seem confusing but stick with me here. Usually our nieces share a room at home, but our guest room has a queen-sized bed. We didn't want them to have to share a bed all summer, and we thought it would be fun for each of them to get to have their own bedroom. Our guest room is upstairs with the two other kid bedrooms, so … [Read more...]

How to remove stickers the easy way

You guys. This is such a simple tip, but not many people know about it. But before I get down to business and share this super simple tip with you, I have to give a shout out to Wal-mart of all places for stocking the CUTEST galvanized containers. Seriously, they have tons of different bins, trays, containers, etc and they are all the oh-so-hot galvanized metal. Rumor has it (I haven't verified with my own eyeballs) that this stuff is now on CLEARANCE. I better get up there and buy some more before they're all gone. You can use these containers in virtually every room in your house for … [Read more...]

How to create cheap sophisticated window treatments

I've been trying to spruce up my office lately to make it feel more cozy. I don't have a ton of extra cash for all new furniture, so I've made do with what I have. While I don't have a ton of extra cash, I do have a little to put towards some very inexpensive window treatments. Did you know you can make your own curtain rods for only a few bucks? If you add in the brackets too you are still less than $8 for the entire getup! My office is basically a bedroom on our main floor (the other bedrooms are all upstairs). This room has one large window and one small window. Yes, these … [Read more...]
