2013 recap – TV segment, AP articles, favorite projects

Hi my friends! Do you remember me? I haven't blogged in several weeks (a first for me!) and I'll admit, it's a little weird to sit down after a few weeks off and write a post. I feel so rusty. I decided to just enjoy the entire season with my family and not stress over getting posts up (a first in 4 years). It was refreshing. First order of business... I am on TV today! Yup, I braved my biggest fear and filmed a short segment on the local Austin Time Warner Cable News for a segment called House Proud. The 2 minute segment is about clearing out your clutter and having a garage sale. You can … [Read more...]

This holiday season is already off to a rough start, but I love it anyway

When I think of the Holidays and Christmastime I picture myself draped in an apron, baking treats a la The Cleavers and crafting up seasonal decorations to my heart's content. Then I wake up. I am too busy to sit around crafting and baking all day, especially over the holidays. I can assure you, my home will NOT be magazine worthy or decorated to the hilt this season. Heck, I couldn't even get it together enough to blog about decorating for Halloween or Thanksgiving (I put out a few decorations on top of the piano for Halloween, and completely bypassed any decorating for Thanksgiving … [Read more...]

Move over piano, there’s a new instrument in town.

Monday the 14th (of January) was my son's 11th birthday. I am still in total denial that my adorable little toddler is now 11. He starts 6th grade next year and will get to pick an elective, which he has decided will be Band. He really wants to follow in his daddy's footsteps and be in the marching band in high school (I was in choir). Right now he plays the piano, but his dream is to play the drums and be a part of the drumline in the marching band. You can't really be in the drumline unless you know how to play the drums, so we bought him a drum kit for his birthday. We browsed … [Read more...]

Confessions of Christmas 2012

Once again, Christmas is almost here, and I have done a terrible job creating that magical environment that my children will look back on fondly. Oh well. I guess I'll never have that picture-perfect Pinterest house and Pinterest family. As a blogger who thoroughly enjoys keeping it as real as possible (in an attempt to prove that not all bloggers have a perfect life), here are a few Christmas confessions. Confession #1: I used double-sided tape to hang all our holiday cards... on the side of a kitchen cabinet and the wall. I used my mini nutcrackers as Christmas Tree … [Read more...]

An open letter to teachers everywhere

I sent the following letter to my kids' teachers and all of their past teachers (that I have contact info on). I have been thinking about the Newtown tragedy since it happened and have shed many tears over it. I can't do much to help the people of Newtown, but I can thank my children's teachers for all they do and let them know I appreciate them. Hug your children extra tight this weekend, and thank your children's teachers for all they do. A simple thank you goes a long way. **** I have been deeply affected by what happened in Newtown on Friday. I can't help but think "What if … [Read more...]

Meet Longhorn Vader

Did you know my family are all Texans? In fact, I'm a native Austinite, which is hard to come by these days. My kids were born in the same hospital that I was! (Us showing our Texas pride in Washington DC) Our family are big University of Texas Longhorn fans. Ben is a UT alumni, and graduated in 2001 from the Business School at the University of Texas at Austin. My grandpa was even a Professor at UT in the Computer Science Department. Ben and I have been going to games together since we were married in 1998! The kids have been longhorn fans since birth. Here they … [Read more...]

A new toy for the game room

Well, he finally did it. Ben finally bought a toy he's been talking about buying for years. Yup. A foosball table. Awesome. (Can you feel the sarcasm dripping from my voice?) Say hello to Godfrey and Bartholomew, our Foosball forwards on Team Yellow. They even have little faces on them. Ben has been pining away for a "professional foosball table, not a cheap crappy one" (his words, not mine) for geeze, like 10 years? His old company had one in their break room so he got pretty good at schooling people. So anyway, he's been saving up any extra money he gets and … [Read more...]
