How Now Orange Cow {dining room painting}

It's been awhile since I updated you on any dining room progress, so I figure it high time we revisit this little purple people eater, er, I mean, this little purple room. When we moved in a little over two years ago, the room looked like this (otherwise known as the Barney Massacare room): If you are new(er) here, you probably are more familier with this version of the room: Now that we've got the pleasantries out of the way, let's talk barn animals. Or rather, huge orange cows, and how they fit in with this dining room with the bird curtains. Back in August I instagram'd … [Read more...]

Turn gift bags into {cheap} art

Every summer during my childhood my mom would pack up her daughters, and her best friend would pack up her two girls and we would hit the road for our annual "no boys allowed" beach vacation (they both have only daughters. No sons were left out). The moms we're dubbed (and still to this day are called) "Beach Barbara" and "Beach Lynda". With 5 girls all within a few years of each other we reeked … [Read more...]

You & Me custom artwork tutorial

I love my "Start Being Awesome" sign so much that I decided to make another huge piece of art! This time I stained the letters with a dark stain and made the background white. I love how it turned out! It's so simple yet has such impact in the room. Do you want to know how to make one of your very own? First I made the wooden barn-door style board using the tutorial here. {I'm actually out of fence posts, so I just buy 1x4s and cut them down to 40" long each.} I started by staining my board. Once it was dry, I added the vinyl: The vinyl is actually bigger … [Read more...]

Is there rehab or a 12-step program for this? {Rodney White}

Last April I posted about my Rodney White obsession and the new artwork I scored on Craigslist. This art totaled my 4th piece of Rodney White artwork. And I quote from that post, "I swear this is the last Rodney White print I will buy. " Then I got a little cheeky when I said, "I really want to get this one too, but I fear that FIVE prints would be well above and beyond obsessive-compulsive. " Well, I'm eating my words, big time. I am officially "well above and beyond obsessive-compulsive". Look at the newest artwork I scored last week at Ross... Isn't is … [Read more...]
