How to FROST GLASS with contact paper

Today I'm sharing a simple tutorial that will change your life. Seriously. It's that good. Would you like more privacy in your home without sacrificing the light streaming in? Just frost your glass! It's so easy, inexpensive, and is totally removable. Yup, unlike sprays and other frosted glass techniques, this one allows you to undo your frost if you ever change your mind. Mind blown, I know. I started out with a 10-panel glass door painted white. Last year I painted it black. I LOVE black doors! As much as I love this 10-panel glass door, especially now that it's black, we need … [Read more...]

How to paint a door – a time lapse DIY tutorial

I feel like I've written about painting doors a thousand different times so I thought it would be way more fun to give you a time lapse play-by-play instead. I hope you enjoy watching it as much as I enjoyed making it! Thanks for reading! Have a wonderful weekend! … [Read more...]

Widening a single door to double doors in the hall closet

In addition to installing a new kitchen, we also widened two doorways; the game room and the hallway closet. I realized when going through photos that I never shared a before and after of the closet in the hall. Here is the hall before we widened the doorway. The closet is the first door on the left. And here it is open. The closet is very wide, but with only a single door, it made it much harder to utilize the space to the left and right. Our renovation consisted of us doing lots of demo work (to save money) and then our builder's team putting it all back together. Ben … [Read more...]

The doors and their knobs

I was one of the bloggers selected by True Value to work on the DIY Squad. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program as well as writing about my experience. I have also been compensated for the materials needed for my DIY project. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments. Remember when I painted all my doors black? And I threw the gold door knobs away and my kids were forced to stuff scarves and t-shirts into the door knob holes for some privacy? Well, the door knobs arrived and they are all installed. And boy … [Read more...]

I see a white door and I want it painted black.

Guess what I've been up to lately. If you said, "painting?" then you are absolutely right. Yup, another painting post. I told y'all I was going to paint this house top to bottom before I did anything else to it. It needs new everything and paint is the first step. I'm already pretty tired of painting trim and walls and ceilings (oh my!), so I might break my promise and skip to something a little more fun. I'm not sure how much more of this monotonous work I can take. I need some windows moulded or a holiday craft or something. But for today? It's all about paint. So, ya, I've been … [Read more...]

Black painted front door (and it wasn’t an epic fail!)

Thank you so much for all your kind words about my biggest DIY disaster of all time. I love sharing my DIY adventures, the good and the bad, with you guys. If my epic fails can help at least one person to not make the same mistakes that I've made, then my misadventure wasn't a waste after all. I am so grateful for all your support and comments. In just one week the post already has more than 90 comments and over 2k+ pins on pinterest. Crazy town. I'm glad my stupidity has gone viral. All press is good press though, right? Even if it's a post about me looking like an idiot. … [Read more...]

Most epically horrendous DIY disaster to date

Have you ever done something so incredibly stupid that you have to sit back and laugh or else you might just crawl into a corner and cry? Last week I made the biggest Do-It-Yourself blunder of my life. It was so horrible and such a huge mess that I'm going to say it was epic. Epically horrendous. And I don't use the word "epic" lightly. I decided after painting my mantle black that it would be awesomespice if all the doors in my house were also black. I have a thing for black doors. Love them! I started by painting the back door black. I loved it so much I tore through my … [Read more...]
