Turning a Formal Living into a BOARD GAME ROOM!

The most anticipated post of the year! Ha ha just kidding. But it's an exciting day none the less. Today I'm FINALLY, after months of alluding to, sharing our Board Game Room renovation. We turned our Formal Living Room into a designated Board Game Room where we come together with friends and family, multiple times a week, to play board games. Yes, we are huge board game nerds. We've always loved playing games so a designated room seemed appropriate for our family. Ben loves board games so much he even has a board game youtube channel (which is pretty great in my opinion!). It's called … [Read more...]

How to add french doors & close in a wall

Hi everyone! I hope you've been enjoying this whole house renovation series so far! Today I'm back to share how we closed in the staircase wall and added french doors. After our wall was framed out and our staircase was finished (check out our before and after staircase post here) it was time to get busy on the french doors. We purchased our french doors from Home Depot. We bought these … [Read more...]

Refinishing hardwood floors, part 1 – weaving new flooring into existing

Happy Friday! Today is the post you've all been waiting for - the floor post. Well, the first one anyway. There are so many pictures and so many steps in refinishing existing hardwood floors that I'm going to break it up into several posts. Last I left off, we had finally finished gutting the entire first floor. We did so much work to get from point A (the house before we started the renovations) to point B (ready to start on the floors). If you are new to this series I encourage you to start here and read all the progress to get to where we are now - ready to start the floors. So … [Read more...]

Rebuilding a staircase & framing out a wall

New to this series? Click here to start at the beginning! The biggest demo/remodel we have to tackle before we can refinish the hardwood floors in our house is the stairway makeover. We have a formal living room off the foyer that we want to enclose with french doors. Here's our formal living room and staircase situation: Right now the staircase is open on both sides and is partially in the formal living room. (This is about to get confusing so hopefully the pictures will help make it easier to understand.) We basically want to build a wall across where the stairs are and add … [Read more...]
