How to fix a broken window crank (casement operator)

I've just been chugging along in this house the past {almost} two years, fixing little things here and there that are broken or need updating. Our son's window has been broken since we moved in. I assumed we would need to replace the whole window, but I stumbled across a repair kit at Home Depot last week and had a lightbulb moment. It may seem obvious to you that you can fix these window cranks when they break, but until we moved to Colorado from Texas two years ago, I literally never once in my life had seen a window crank on a window. All the windows I've ever had just slide open, … [Read more...]

Our teenage son’s room is coming together

Now that we are getting settled into our new house, I have the very beginnings of some before and now pictures to share with you. Today I'm going to finally share our son's room which you got a glimpse of yesterday in our video walk through. Our son is 13 now (14 in January! Ack!) and wants a room that reflects him and his personality. I've been trying to put his room together and he has become so opinionated lately, which honestly, I think is great. I want him to love his room and enjoy spending time there. When we bought the house the room had two light blue walls and two dark blue … [Read more...]

2 hacks: Ikea Bygel rails as curtain rods & bed sheets into curtains

I can finally check another item off my should-have-done-this-a-year-ago to-do list. My son's curtains have been sitting in his closet since we moved in almost 2 years ago. Why has it taken me so long to hang them? Because I am the Master Procrastinator. But they are hung and looking fly if I do say so myself. I hung them the same way I hung them in our previous house - using two Bygel Rails from good ol' Ikea. They come in two sizes. For the curtains I purchased the shorter ones. These rails are made for the kitchen to hold accessories on. Ikea also suggests using them as a … [Read more...]

Every day I’m shuffling

Hi! Before I get to today's post I have two quick things: 1) Today is Ben and my 15 year anniversary!! Holy cow. That's like a milestone or something. We were young and stupidly in love when we got married (I wasn't even 19 yet!), but it was the best decision we have ever made. I can't imagine my life without my partner in crime. Happy Anniversary, babe. Engaged and now:    2) Thanks for all the feedback on my last post! I am going to try to blog more, but with less content per post. I like touching base with you more frequently, so thank you for your opinions. I'm a week … [Read more...]

Slappin’ some paint on the walls

The DIYing has finally commenced. I have purchased the paint and the boy's room is done-zoe. The rest of the house? NotSoMuch. But at least one room is looking really fly now. Okay, so I knew I wanted a greige color (gray-ish beige-ish) but which one? Picking paint is hard, y'all! First off, you have to decide what brand to use. That in itself can make one go completely cray-cray. And then the color? OMG forgetaboutit. Here's the method to my paint picking madness. Maybe some of these motions I went through will help you out when trying to chose the perfect gray-ish beige-ish. … [Read more...]

Two hacks in one post (curtains for my boy’s room)

Hiah my friends! I have been doing a little bit of tweaking in my son's room this past week and am very excited to show you! His poor room has been virtually neglected the past almost-3-years that we've lived here. Thank goodness he is a typical boy who could care less what his room looks like. As long as he has his legos and DS, he is a happy camper. Okay, so his room started like this: First off, I ditched the shelf below his window almost immediately. It's now on the other side of the room. And just for a refresher, here's the post I wrote about all his bedding. I'll just go … [Read more...]

Sorting all those LEGO instruction booklets

Are you a Lego mama? I am. My son has tons of Legos. Like, bucket-loads. I've spent time setting up a pretty sweet containment system for all the chaos, but those instruction booklets? Aye yai yai. I swear, my friends, Legos will be the death of me! So, for like 8 years I have saved the Lego instruction books from the grips of a little boy who would otherwise completely destroy them. He is finally old enough that I have relinquished my iron grip on these very expensive little books and allowed him to keep them. The booklets have been stored in a plastic container with a lid. They have … [Read more...]
