My sliding door handle broke. Here’s how I replaced it.

Helloooo my friends! How are you? I am doing great! Well, except for the fact that my entire body hurts. I started Crossfit this week and have gone twice. I now can no longer move my legs or arms. I am so sore! It's a good kind of sore though. It's the type of sore you get when you can tell that you are getting toned and in shape. Now I need to just keep on going and turn this into a habit. So, my sliding door handle broke. It was shut and locked, and the lock literally broke off in my hand. Uh oh. Now what? How on earth do you get a locked door open when the lock breaks off? … [Read more...]

Make your own drawer dividers/organizers

I can't believe I forgot to show you this awesome project in our last house. I was going through old photos and came across these and had such a doh! moment when I realized I never shared this. So, for those trying to keep up with every place we've ever lived, this was our 2nd house in Austin (our country house), before we moved here to Colorado. And to confuse you even more, this was post-renovation on our kitchen in that house. And just to make things even more interesting, Ben's company just went through a merger and his company was the one getting bought out, so now things are … [Read more...]

Canned Goods Storage

We are in the process of upgrading our dated and not-so-functional pantry. The old, rusted wire shelving has been replaced with wooden shelves in a more user-friendly layout. Instead of wrapping the shelving around the entire pantry we opted to leave the back wall open and create a narrow canned goods shelving system instead. Not only does the shelf hold a ton of cans, it also makes it extremely easy to find exactly what I'm looking for. Another great feature is that it has a very narrow profile - sticking out from the wall only 3.5"! This leaves the entire room feeling bigger and more … [Read more...]

replacing switches and outlets – a small update with a big impact

I am excited to be a part of the True Value Blog Squad again this year! You guys know I'm nutso about DIY, so partnering with True Value Hardware is a no-brainer for this hardware store junkie. I am one of the bloggers selected by True Value to work on the DIY Blog Squad. I have been compensated for my time commitment to the program as well as my writing about my experience. I have also been compensated for the materials needed for my DIY project. However, my opinions are entirely my own and I have not been paid to publish positive comments. I have been busy DIYing my son's bedroom … [Read more...]

Totally awesome HUGE mirror made from shims (DIY mirror project)

How many projects have you pinned and actually followed through and finished? I can probably count on one hand how many projects on my Pinterest to-do list I've actually done. Well I'm here to report I actually followed through and made a project I pinned on pinterest. I am as shocked as you. My friend Kristi from Addicted 2 Decorating made the most awesome mirror almost TWO years ago. And almost two years ago I pinned that sucker so quick. I just had to make one. It only took almost two years, but I've made the mirror and I'm thrilled to bits about it. Here's my HUGE 4-foot in diameter … [Read more...]

The fence post post

This "The Fence Post Post" post is brought to you by Bob Loblaw from the Bob Loblaw Law Blog. {wink} Name that TV show! Who else wants to give Netflix big wet kisses for bringing this series back? We've had fairly good weather here in Austin for the past few weeks so Ben and I have tried to take advantage of it and get some much-needed outdoor work done. The biggest project on our list was to replace a section of our fence that fell over two years ago. Yes, I said TWO years ago. We have spent the last two years holding our fence up with a large rock and some 2x8s leaned against the … [Read more...]
