Our friends PRANKED our house while we were on vacation || best prank ever!

We were recently pranked so good by some of our friends that I am still laughing about it. Seriously, this is the prank to end all pranks. We have some pretty awesome friends. Our family went on a quick getaway to San Francisco a few weeks ago and when we got home at almost 1am we walked into this: I'm sure you are thinking, "What in the heck am I looking at? What on earth is that?" Let me start from the beginning... Our son is in Percussion at high school. He is part of an Indoor Drumline. That's him on the far left with a tan beanie on. … [Read more...]

Let the whole-house renovations begin!

Last September we started a huge renovation on our home. I've wanted to blog about it since then but have been so overwhelmed with the mess and construction that I didn't even know where to begin. Well, I'm finally sitting down to share with you guys what I've been doing in our house! We've basically gutted the entire first floor so this will take many blog posts to get caught up. Our major renovation includes: - gutting the kitchen, changing the layout a bit, and installing a new kitchen - all new hardwood floors - new treads and risers on the staircase - ripping out old brick … [Read more...]

Stunning fireplace makeover with paint!

I finally did it. I finally took the plunge and painted the fireplace! I've been putting it off for a year and a half because, well, it's just so permanent. What if I hated it? Once you paint brick, it is really hard to un-paint it. It's a scary plunge! But I finally just dove in head first and did it. I mean, how can I hate the brick any more than I already do? Peach brick is really not my thing, and I just couldn't stare at that huge peach wall for one more day. Check out the before and after pics, and get all the deets about painting brick... Here's where we started: We have a … [Read more...]

Painting the Formal Living Room – the process

This house is starting to come together! I painted the formal living room. yay! Every time I paint a room the house feels a little bit more like *my* home. There's something about moving into someone else's house, living with their colors, then painting over those old colors that really makes you feel like it's actually your house. I made a fun video of me painting the living room - with a broken wrist and all! If you can't watch the video (you are missing out!) here are the before and after pics. I don't have any process pictures, only the process video. … [Read more...]

Mounting a TV on brick above a fireplace

Hey everyone! Merry belated Christmas! I hope you had a great holiday. We spent lots of time baking, spending time with friends, prepping for Christmas, snowboarding, and getting stuff done around the house. Speaking of getting stuff done around the house... We finally mounted our TV in the living room. It was quite the hot mess last time you saw it: This is a screen grab from my House Tour video because believe it or not I didn't have a single photo of the tv propped up on a desk in front of our fireplace. I'm guessing it was subconscious avoidance on my part because I never want to … [Read more...]

New $99 rugs in the family and dining rooms

Last week I showed you our brand new kitchen. You probably noticed a new rug in the dining room. I'm here to give you the low down. I've been searching for a rug for the dining room and living room for awhile. I've mostly looked online, but haven't pulled the trigger on anything for a few reasons: a) rugs are expensive!, b) there are way too many options to pick from and I just get overwhelmed and bored clicking through page after page of rugs, and c) I like to see stuff in person before I make a purchase. I just happened to be at Sam's Club with my sister and came across … [Read more...]

New floors!

The new floors are finally in! I cannot even contain my excitement about this. When we bought this house the common areas had two different types of flooring - tile and wood. Not only was the tile in really bad condition, the combination of the two types of floors really broke up the spaces and made them feel small and choppy. BEFORE Our goal was to get rid of all the tile and have wood throughout the main areas of the house. BEFORE It's been a long road to get here. First we had to gut everything, then the cabinets and counters had to go in. One of the last steps in the … [Read more...]
