A few little updates to my daughter’s room

Well hello my friends! I hope you all had a great weekend. I appreciate all your sweet comments and support from my previous post about digging out of debt and following Dave Ramsey's financial plan. I've been trying to tie up little loose ends around the house and this weekend I tackled a project I've been meaning to do for probably a year. It took me a total of about 10 minutes. I don't know why I put these little things off for so long! Both quick projects were in my daughter's room. I've been trying to just finish up this room but it's all the little finishing touches that I really … [Read more...]

Piano room tinkering; chairs and lighting

Last month we surprised our son with a drum set for his 11th birthday. He was pretty darn excited to say the least. Unfortunately, the drum set turned the piano room on its head. The chairs didn't really fit anymore and it was way too cramped. Fortunately, I purchased some chairs from Target dot com's clearance section several months ago that were for my living room, but when they arrived they were way too small for the living room. It totally threw the scale of the room off and they looked odd. They were such a great deal though and I loved them so I stuck them in my bedroom and … [Read more...]

Master bathroom update (new towel hooks)

A long time ago I showed you my bathroom. And it pretty much still looks the exact same as it did a year and a half ago. The room is nice enough that it hasn't warranted an immediate makeover (I've had bigger fish to fry), it's just boring. Builder beige walls, builder beige tile, etc. There is one serious flaw though that has driven me nuts. The room is seriously lacking anywhere to hang wet towels. They usually get hung over the shower door or even worse, over our actual doors. I've pretty much lived with this nonsense for 2+ years. I'd finally had enough. I was at Home … [Read more...]

Adding more functional space in the laundry room (storage shelf and clothing rod)

I have been renovating my laundry room since about mid-September. I started with a general idea of how I wanted the room to look, but I like to work slow and live in a space as I make it over so I can get a feel for what I really want. The laundry room started like this: It was uninspiring and lacked any flow or function. At the end of the room was a large square space that was awkward. I had a shelf in there for awhile and I tried to make it useful by hanging some coat hooks and adding a chalk board. In reality, it was the dumping spot for anything in the house that we didn't … [Read more...]

The dining table {finally} has functional chairs

Don't you hate it when bloggers start a project, and then never seem to finish it? You're left wondering what ever happened to it, and hoping for an update. Ya, me too. It's so annoying waiting months and months and still never get any updates. What I hate most is that I am guilty of this. I'm a terrible blogger! I get excited about a project, start blogging about it, then lose interest in actually finishing the project. Months go by before the project is updated. I am sorry that I have been one of those really annoying bloggers that takes months to finish a project. I am even … [Read more...]

Labeling & organizing massive amounts of Legos

Well hello hello! Things have been cray-cray around here! I have been doing stuff around the ol' hood, but mostly I've been trying to soak up the last few weeks of kid action before they head back to school... which they did, Monday. sniff. I love having them home, but I'll admit, it is time. It's been two days and I've already got the house totally torn apart with projects! The first of many is to get some labels on the Lego Organization System I set up in my son's room. {Lego Organization} Remember that post? About a month ago I showed these cool storage units I found over … [Read more...]

The difference 2 years makes

Two years ago when we bought our home I cringed when I opened the door to welcome you in. These days, not so much. Welcome to my home. It's still not perfect and I still have loads more I want to do, but when I see these before and after pictures I can't help but smile and pat myself on the back. In case you are curious, yes, I've changed a few things since I snapped this picture. The house is always in a state of flux. My favorite thing? I'd say the paint and moulding. … [Read more...]
