My office is painted! blog post + video

My office is finally painted. Painting wall after wall in my house is really not fun at all, but making a time lapse of it all is fun! So lucky you, here's another time lapse video for your entertainment. I've also encluded a regular ol' blog post with photos below. Have fun watching and reading! The previous owners painted the room green. Honestly, it wasn't a terrible green. I just didn't like it very much. Like how messy my office is? Yes, it's terrible. The office is right off the family room on the main floor so it tends to become the dumping grounds for any and all crap. … [Read more...]

It is amazing how paint can transform a space

The guest bathroom finally got a fresh coat of paint! Here's how it looked when we moved in: And here's how it's looking now! The bathroom still needs a full overhaul, but the green is gone and the room is much more soothing now. Check out this adorable little wall hook! I will never tire of my love for animal heads. I found this "Do Something Awesome" sign and of course had to get it. AWESOME is my favorite word, after all! Before and Afters:       *Paint color is Sherwin Williams Stucco in a satin finish … [Read more...]

Painting the Formal Living Room – the process

This house is starting to come together! I painted the formal living room. yay! Every time I paint a room the house feels a little bit more like *my* home. There's something about moving into someone else's house, living with their colors, then painting over those old colors that really makes you feel like it's actually your house. I made a fun video of me painting the living room - with a broken wrist and all! If you can't watch the video (you are missing out!) here are the before and after pics. I don't have any process pictures, only the process video. … [Read more...]

Easier way to install wall hooks

We recently updated our daughter's bathroom (which also doubles as the guest bathroom) with some beadboard and a row of hooks. Now there are plenty of spots to hang all the beach towels that end up all over the floor each summer. Today I want to show you how to easily install hooks. This tip can be used when hanging anything on your wall - nails, screws, anchors, hooks, etc. Start by using pieces of painters tape to eyeball where you want your hooks. You don't need to measure quite yet. This just helps you get an idea for how many hooks you want and how far apart you want them. … [Read more...]

Air Registers and other equally boring topics

Hey hey hey my friends! Sometimes when you buy a home that needs updating, you find yourself spending money and time on really boring stuff. It's kind of depressing really. I just dropped about $150 on air registers. Yes, you heard me - air registers. Does anyone even know what those are? It's always a delight when you have to drop a wad of cash on something for your house that will impress no one. (Well, I'll admit, I guess I am just a tad impressed. My ceilings are looking a lot more cohesive now.) (new air register) Okay, so air registers. What are they? They are those vent looking … [Read more...]

Fresh paint in the master bathroom

I painted our master bathroom a year ago, and realized today that I never posted about it here. I wrote a post about it for True Value's blog (original post here) but never ended up mentioning it here on my blog. I gave our master bathroom a paint makeover. The small bathroom was previously painted a shade of salmon, an orangy redish color: Paint is such a personal decision, and there are no wrong paint colors! The rule is, if you love it, and you love living in the space, then the color is perfect for YOU. I'll admit though, I am not keen on this salmon color, so it had to go! … [Read more...]

Another game room french doors post

I know you have just been on pins and needles waiting to see what color I painted the game room doors. When I last left off, I was debating whether to paint the french doors or stain them. Here's that post if you'd like to see the process of installing the doors and then me hemming and hawing over what color to paint them. If you guessed "paint them black" then you win a cookie. I really love the look of stained french glass panel doors, but I just couldn't commit. I felt like they would compete too much with the wood floor, and they would look out of place in our style of house. … [Read more...]
