Because you know I’m all about that base, ’bout that base

The new baseboards are in and painted. And I am all about that base! Because we did such a large-scale renovation, the builder sent his team over to do all the trim work for us - baseboards, moulding, shelving, and doors. It was so nice to feel so pampered! Usually I will hang all the base and it takes me forever. I did however, have to paint it all. And trust me, that was not fun in the least. Each piece of trim had to be caulked, nail holes had to be filled, they needed a coat of primer, and then to finish it off, at least two coats of paint (some areas needed three coats). … [Read more...]

Craftsman style moulding makes me happy

Hey y'all! How the heck are ya? Hopefully not freezing to death. Even in Austin, where it's usually H-O-T, it has been so fr-fr-fr-freezing cold I can hardly stand it. I'm so used to hot weather that I pretty much just shut down and hibernate if the temps get below 50 degrees. I seriously cannot stand cold weather! Well, fortunately Saturday the weather gods shined upon us for one glorious day and we had temps in the high 70s. As soon as I felt that warm air, it light a fire under me and I started a project I've drooled about for 9 months now. The last time I mentioned our living room it … [Read more...]

Check out the kids’ teal and grass green bathroom makeover

Guess what? I am done. D-O-N-E with the kids' gender-neutral bathroom makeover! Well, done enough. I still need some art for a wall or two, but for now, I'm calling it. I stayed pretty true to my original plan, but I did change a few things which I'll get to in a minute. Before-and-Afters are my favorite, so let's just start off there. No point in dragging it out and keeping you in suspense. You are welcome. I am super obnoxious and labeled each before and after photo just in case any of them pop up on pinterest. I am so stoked with how this room … [Read more...]

kids’ bathroom update: paint and hardware (and a lot of snark)

Holla! I'm a day late posting, but hopefully this update won't be a dolla' short. If you've been reading for more than a few days you are probably aware that I've been redoing the kids' bathroom. Yes, another bathroom post. I'm on a roll (pun unintentionally hilarious). So, let's see, where was I? I started with a moodboard of the big overhaul, then the bathroom got all up in its business with some serious beadboard treatment, and after that the ugly builder-grade mirror got a handmade (but not homemade - that sounds frumpy) frame. Which brings us to today. Hardware. And paint. And … [Read more...]

The kids’ bathroom mirror gets framed

The past few weeks I've been working on renovating the kids' bathroom. Today I'm going to show you how I framed out their mirror. I have never framed out a mirror before so I ended up putting it off in our house for more than two years. After completing one all I have to say is, dude, this is pretty darn easy. Expect me to go on a tangent and frame out all the mirrors in this house over the next month. Such a huge difference. I can't even believe how much of a difference this simple update has made. Just to recap, so far I've shared my plans for the bathroom complete with a … [Read more...]

Kids’ bathroom makeover, phase 1: Hanging beadboard and trim

I have been working on the kids' gender-neutral bathroom this week and it is turing out exactly how I have been envisioning it. I am so excited to share the progress with you guys. Last week I showed you the mood board I created for the bathroom. I am so glad that you all liked it! I am pretty good at power tools and crafting and stuff, but the whole "decorating" thing is not really my forte, though I do try. Hearing that you liked my concept convinced me that my collection of stuff wasn't a total train-wreck. :) Here's where I stared from: Before I dive into all the … [Read more...]

The great big plans for the kids’ bathroom overhaul

As promised, I'm back with some exciting updates in our kids' bathroom. I have been putting off redoing their bathroom for two reasons. 1) I had a hard time coming up with a unisex theme that my son and daughter could both enjoy. And 2) (the main reason)... I was dreading going up and down the stairs like twenty billion times. But I sucked it up and have started the great kids' bathroom renovation of 2013. Here's where we are starting from. The bathroom is standard size and shape, except the toilet is across from the sink in this little alcove. I wish it were just next to the tub and … [Read more...]
